Sunday Summary - 7.10.22

After 2+ years in our house, we finally have front landscaping! Pictured is only a portion of it, but we absolutely love it! They’re all baby plants (for now), but soon we’ll have some pretty purple blooms and taller tree/bushes flanking the sides of the house. Now, to keep it all alive in this insane heat…

Reading

This book was released in May of last year, and I feel like it’s just as popular today (for good reason — I LOVED it.) Word on the street says it’s been picked up by Hulu for a limited series, too!

Amazon describes Malibu Rising as a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family, but I would personally describe it as a story about the entire life of a family that culminates with one unforgettable night. SeMaNtIcS, I know.

Cooking

I’ve been struggling with my diet lately. Everything seems to upset my stomach, I’ve been getting a lot of random headaches, and I generally just haven’t felt great. My doctor says I’m healthy as a horse, but I’m clearly having some food sensitivities, so I’m on a mission to feel better. In addition to taking a daily probiotic, I’m doing my best to cut back on dairy, wheat, and yeast (known to severely upset my stomach.)

We’re trying some new recipes from a blog called The Modern Proper, and I’m quite aware that some call for cheese; however, one calls for goat cheese, known to be much easier for humans to process/digest than cheese made from cows’ milk. We’re doing what we can!

Watching

Since I had this week off work, the watching section is back, baby! I took advantage of my downtime and spent time reading, watching new TV shows and movies, cleaning, and doing yard work. While it wasn’t the most adventurous week off, I enjoyed the downtime thoroughly!

The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime Video

This show is based on a book by the author who wrote To All the Boys I Loved Before. If you’ve seen those 3 movies on Netflix, I’d say this show is a bit more lewd in comparison. I also think the acting in To All the Boys was quite a bit better (). It was a great show to watch in the summer if you’re into the young adult shows these days, don’t get me wrong! But if my future children ever acted liked these kids, I’d pass out.

Uncharted on Netflix

Bryan and I are both Tom Holland fans and fans of this movie! I don’t think it’d ever win any awards, but it was a fun adventure to watch, and we laughed a lot! If you enjoyed Red Notice on Netflix, you’d really like this one - very similar!

Top Gun: Maverick

I heard friends absolutely RAVE about this movie before we saw it, and it definitely lived up to the hype! I kept getting Top Gun related suggestions on YouTube afterward, and this video was pretty interesting. Three real life Top Gun pilots react to the movie and let you know how accurate the mission, maneuvers, and lingo actually were! Really cool!

Thor: Love and Thunder

We saw this movie this morning, and it was GREAT! Christian Bale was a sufficiently creepy bad guy, and it had the classic funny Thor humor throughout. If you’re a Marvel fan, definitely go see it in theaters and don’t you dare leave before the two end credit scenes! I promise they’re worth the wait!

Listening

  • Flightless Bird - Disney Adults Pt. 2 & Toilets

    • I like Disney as much as the next person, but this episode has some interviews from people who are absolutely next level, and it was quite the ride! We were laughing a ton while sitting in traffic - something I don’t say often!

    • As a reminder, this podcast has an Australian host and is part of the Armchair Expert podcast family. It explores different topics Americans are obsessed with (think burgers, Disney, flags, etc.) from the lens of an “outsider.” Very interesting!

  • Armchair Expert - Connie Britton

    • She was a super fun guest and also made me start rewatching Friday Night Lights for… the third time.
