SUNDAY SUMMARY| 12

MAY| 2022

Allergies:1 | Maggie: 0

Last weekend there was no Sunday Summary, because I spent a great weekend with the fam in LA celebrating Mother’s Day! We had a great time eating by the water, hiking, finding great food at this food hall (Bryan’s most treasured site in any city), and generally just enjoying each other’s company. The day after we returned, I developed a nasty cold brought on by allergies that took me out for most of the week. Womp, womp.

I’m happy to say I’m on the mend, but I’m still going to take things pretty easy through the weekend in hopes that it’ll be mostly gone by Monday! I have exactly 1 month of insane work hours left before a huge program comes to fruition, and I just need to power through for some well-deserved vacation on the other side.

Since we’re about mid-way through the year (can you believe that?), I decided to make this summary more of a mid-year check in! Let’s dive in!

Mid-Year 2022 Book Rankings & Reviews

  1. One Italian Summer - 5 stars

    • At the heels of her mother's death, Katy Silver takes a summer trip to Italy - a trip she was supposed to go on with her mother. Once she arrives she will discover more about herself in 2 weeks, than in her entire lifetime.

  2. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - 5 stars

    • To escape her impending wedding, Addie makes a deal with the god of darkness to free herself forever from belonging to anyone. The impacts of which were much bigger than she could have anticipated.

  3. Anxious People - 5 stars

    • Anxious People is about a failed bank robbery that turns an apartment viewing into a hostage situation and the subsequent investigation into it.

  4. Meet Me in Paradise - 4 stars

    • When Sadie returns from a tough assignment abroad and looks a little worse for wear, her sister Marin reluctantly agrees to a sisters' spa weekend on the tropical island of Saba. It’s described as a profound book about loss and grief and time slipping away.

  5. One Night on the Island - 4 stars

    • Two strangers escape to the same remote island for very different reasons and are unknowingly booked in the same room. This book explores the meaning of home, the joys of escape and how the things we think we want are never the things we really need.

  6. That Summer - 4 stars

    • That Summer follows the lives of two women brought together by unfortunate circumstances. It’s a story about surviving our pasts, confronting our futures, and the sustaining bonds of friendship.

  7. Never Split the Difference - 4 stars

    • Chris Voss, former FBI hostage negotiator, aims to teach you how to take control of the conversations that will influence your life and career.

  8. The Soulmate Equation - 4 stars

    • Jess believes in numbers, not love. But when a new matchmaking company suggests compatibility can be in DNA, she gives it a go and finds she's highly compatible with someone she can't stand.

  9. Enjoy the View (Moose Springs, Alaska #3) - 4 stars

    • Former Hollywood actress River Lane's career is tanking fast. Determined to start fresh behind the camera, she agrees to film a documentary about the picturesque small town of Moose Springs, Alaska. The assignment should have been easy, but the locals want nothing to do with her.

Top 5 Clothing & Accessories of 2022 (so far!)

  • Black Maxi Dress - TTS - I’ve already worn this multiple times, and I think it’s going to be a super easy travel dress.

  • Neutral Sneakers - a recommendation from my friend Caroline — I recommend going up a half size for the perfect fit. I like that the color is a little different from the ever-popular stark white.

  • Light wash, slim straight jeans - I have these in two different washes, both in Petite 25. I can’t stop wearing them, because they’re easily the most comfortable jeans in my closet.

  • Louie Sling - I never thought I could pull off the “sling bag” look, but it was so handy for our hike in LA (see pic above), and I think it’ll be great for Disney this summer. It comes from Walker Family Goods, a small family business.

  • Tennis Shoes - I got these in a Trunk Club a while back, and they are the most comfortable tennis shoes I’ve tried in a while.

Top 5 Favorite Videos of 2022

I feel like this happens often, because the YouTube algorithm is a true mystery to me, but a lot of my favorites are some of the worst performing videos of the year. Hope you enjoy watching them as much as I enjoyed making them, if you haven’t seen them already!

Hopefully you enjoyed this mid-year round up of the categories we discuss most! See you next week!
